Some Herb Plants

A few months ago, lots of Thai basil plants seems to be popping everywhere in my potted garden. Must be from the seeds that are found in the soil in some of my pots. Many months ago, the last of my basil plants have dried and wilted due to the extremely hot weather, and now the seeds from those plants that must have dropped into the soil have sprouted new seedlings. I sometimes transfer my other plants from smaller pots to bigger ones, and I supposed that was how the seeds got distributed when the soil was mixed, and also because I placed the pots rather close to other plants due to limited space, the seeds must have fallen into the other pots as well.

Thai basil plant, growing happily at the corner of the rectangular pot of my sawtooth coriander.

Two young seedlings which I planted in two separate pots, are doing great, growing well right now.

The ones here, sprouted on their own and I left them in their own chosen spots, which seems to suit them fine. There are a few more plants in separate pots, and I even had to discard some of the seedlings, as there are just too many, and I do not have enough of space!

Sweet Basil

Thymes, it was growing really well until..... see photo below.....

...it was infested by some sort of white fungus. I was really disappointed as the thyme plant has been thriving  so well and gets so big, and now this!

Rosemary, have been growing rather slow, but have been supplying me with fragrant leaves for my bakes and cooking pot.

Chilli Plant, which I bought from a nursery about two months ago, could not resist getting this plant when I saw those cute little tiny chillies growing all over. They are all ripe now, red and ready to be harvested. There's even more small chillies growing!

What are the herb plants that you are growing in your garden?

Some Plants from Sg. Buloh

I have not visited the nurseries in Sg. Buloh for more than a year, until about 2 months ago. That trip to Sg Buloh was not a planned trip at all! I went over to my sister's house visiting and one of my sisters suggested   a visit to Sg. Buloh nurseries, I of course, agreed immediately! My kind BIL drove us there. We did not intend to buy many plants, but by the time we drove back to my sister's house, the car was full of plants! :)

These are the plants that I got from Sg. Buloh nurseries

Lemon

 Calamansi Lime

 Kaffir Lime

 Sweet Basil (Organic)

Lavandula, botanic name for Lavender (Organic)

There are a few more plants that I would love to bring home, but the car was already full, my sisters bought some plants too, and anyway this was not a planned trip. So I was happy with my plants that I've added to my otherwise at the moment "misery" garden.

I have received many emails enquiring about the nurseries in Sg. Buloh which I purchased all my herb plants from. It has been more than a year since my last visit, and this time, I managed to get the details of the nurseries that I went to.

I bought the Lemon tree from TSB Nursery, did not have much time to look round this nursery as I was specifically looking for a Lemon Tree. Three of us bought each one home, we are three happy sisters that day! Details of nursery as follows :
TSB Nursery
J.K.R.R. 471, Central Section
Lorong Raja (1), 47000 Sungai Buloh, Selangor
PTC : Tan Siew Bee
Tel No : 012-3138087

I bought the rest of the plants from this nursery, Delima Tani (M) Sdn Bhd, funny thing is their name card states their address for their main nursery in Jalan Subang, they do not have the name card with the Sg. Buloh address. The branch in Sg. Buloh which I went to, has many other herb plants, like Thai Basil, Vietnam Basil, Rosemary, Thymes, Sage, Dill and many more. Stephanie of My Green Finder has done a post on their main nursery centre in Jalan Subang, click here and here to read more about their nurseries from Stephanie. To get to their nursery in Sg. Buloh, please contact them, details as follows :
Delima Tani (M) Sdn Bhd
Lot 49 & 50, Jalan Subang
Sg. Buloh, 47000 Selangor
PTC : Albert Goh Seng Kok
Tel No : 012-2034211

Both nurseries are along the same road, TSB comes first, and Delima Tani is a little distance away. Good luck in your search for herb plants, I hope you find what you are looking for!

Sweet Basil, From Garden to Table, And Starting Over

I love the wonderful smell of fresh basil leaves. My basil plants was really lush and healthy a couple of months back. I have not been taking care of my garden for the past two months and my plants are not very happy! I should have cut and pruned off the stems when it starts to flower to encourage more growth but well, that did not happen.

My basil plant in September  : )

In November...  : (

I removed the whole plant as the stems and branches are not healthy. Harvested all the leaves, what did I do with all the leaves? ....

Made a jar of delicious Basil Pesto. It was my first attempt at  making this sauce and definitely won't be the last. I love it. Have you tried Basil Pesto before? It really is delicious and healthy. If you want to give it a try, the recipe is over at my kitchen, click here. What to do with this sauce? You can pour it over your cooked spaghetti, made some bread with it, cooked it with chicken, use it in salad, etc... ! How did I use my jar of Basil Pesto? ....

I made a delicious Pesto Pizza with a delightful crispy crust. If you are a pizza lover, you must certainly try this. For the recipe, click here.

I have a few basil seedlings in my potted garden, which hopefully will grow healthy with lush green leaves. I have finished my jar of pesto, and eagerly waiting for my basil plant to grow, for my next jar.

Some harvest!

Weather has been extremely hot this past week. Other than frequent watering of the plants, did not do much gardening lately. Some of my harvest the past week :

Kangkung. The last batch. I'm using the containers for carrots, radish and sweet peas. Due to lack of space, I need to rotate my plants. Hopefully the new plants will grow well, as I do not have much luck with carrots at all! Keeping my fingers crossed!

The weather has been so hot these few weeks that I have not done any gardening until two days ago. Weeds have been growing in most of my pots, and they are the ones that are most happy with the hot spell. Besides frequent watering, I have stayed away from gardening until two days ago when the weeds became unbearable!

This pot of mint leaves  has wilted and died, and I left the pot in a corner two months ago, forgotten all about it, to my surprised found new sprouts and leaves growing. I transferred the pot where it can get full sun and now it is growing well.

Sweet Basil plant which I bought many months ago have wilted and died, and now I find the baby plants sprouting in many of the pots with other plants. Transferred two baby plants into the foam container about four weeks ago and they are growing well, behind these two are another two tiny plants which I just transferred two days ago. Found a few more baby plants and have planted those in other pots as well. Very soon I will have enough of leaves for my cooking pot! So happy just thinking about it, can't wait!

I bought some San Choy (Malabar Spinach) for a vegetable dish, and planted the stems about a month ago, many leaves have grown since then, and soon it will be harvest time!

Another round of harvest of spring onions, which I planted almost three weeks ago.

Harvested my chives!
