What's growing in my potted garden

Here are some of the veggies which I'm growing right now in my garden pots and containers :

Cilantro, my favourite, I have two containers of these fragrant herb.

Dwarf Nai Pak

Sweet Baby Corn

White Icicle Radish

Daikon (Chinese Radish), sharing the same container with the White Icicle

Clemson Spineless Green Okra, just beginning to flower.

French Breakfast Radish...only one seed germinated, out the 6 seeds I sowed. I transplanted the little seedling in the same pot with the Okra, and it is growing really well, the Okra too. These two seems to be very good companions.

Cabbage

Broccoli, it is taking forever for the broccoli head to appear. So far nothing yet, and it has been about 9 to 10 months! Will it ever grow the head?

Raab Rapini Broccoli.  Despite its name, it is actually the same family of turnips. It will grow many small florets with long stems. First time I'm growing these and is curious whether it can grow in our hot weather. So far the plants look healthy, but I have not seen any florets yet.

Pomegranate, local variety. There are 5 fruits growing right now, and a few flowers have dropped off after a heavy rain.

Will update on the progress of these plants!!

Some garden updates

Update from my previous post on my Pomegranate plant, about 5 weeks ago, I was really happy to see that out of the one dozen flowers that bloomed, two have turned to fruits!  Even though almost all of the flowers have dropped off, I was quite happy as I've bought this young seedling less than a year ago, and did not expect it to grow so quick and now with fruits too!

This photo was taken about 2 weeks ago.

The same fruit, today. The calyx at the bottom which looks like a crown, have dropped off, making the fruit looks so "un-pomegranate" LOL!

The second fruit, photo taken about 2 weeks ago.

The fruit today. It still has it's calyx at the bottom of the fruit. With it's "crowning glory" this looks more like a pomegranate, unlike the "naked" one from the second photo above, which looks like a small young mango fruit!

I can't wait for the fruits to ripen. This is the first time I'm growing pomegranate, so I'm not sure when is the suitable time to harvest. From what I've read from the internet, it takes about 6 months from the start of the flowers to harvesting the fruits. I guess that I'll have to wait a little longer, and probably not as long as 6 months, depending on the variety. I really do not know the variety of this plant in my pot, all I knew was, it is our local variety, as was told by the seller from the nursery, and she herself do not know the variety of this fruit.

My chilli plant. I have harvested all the red ripe chillies and have been enjoying at least 3 to 5 chillies with my meals, almost everyday.

Look what I've discovered in my belimbing tree! A bird's nest! I have seen the mother bird only once yesterday, and before I could take my camera, it flew off! Wondering if there's any eggs in the nest!

Probably there's no eggs in there yet, as I have not seen the mother bird other than that one time yesterday. Maybe she's just getting the nest ready for her big moment! Will monitor the progress of this nest!

Pomegranate

I bought a young pomegranate plant about 8 months ago from a local nursery. The plant is about 18" tall at that time and now it has grown to more than 4 feet tall. Wow, it grew really fast. And I was really surprised to find about 6 flower buds growing at the tip of the branches a few weeks ago, something which I did not expect at all, as I was expecting it to flower maybe at least for another 6 months or so.

One of the flower buds

The sepal is starting to open.

This ant is really busy, it kept going round the bud in circles, wonder if they ever get dizzy???

Two days later, the sepal has opened and the petals are blooming.

The little ant it still here!

The bright orange colour of the flowers are really beautiful.

Two days later, the flower did not seem to reach full bloom. Or is it normal? No idea, first time growing pomegranate.

The petals are dropping and the stamens are visible. The next day, it dropped off onto the ground. And this circle happens to all six flowers. I was really disappointed as I was looking forward to my first pomegranate fruit. This led me to google for information and found out that it is a normal cycle for the pomegranate young tree to flower for the first 2 to 3 years before they bear any real fruit. The flowers or fruits would dropped during the first few years of growth, as it is preparing itself to mature into healthy fruit-bearing plants.

Well, that was about three weeks ago. Now, there are about a dozen new flower buds on the little tree.

This time, some of the flower buds are appearing along the length of the branches instead of only at the tip of the branches, and ...

a cluster of buds at the end of the branch.

Will the buds have full blooms this time round, and perhaps with a fruit or two, or is this another round of only blooms? I'm waiting patiently to find out.
