Weed or Vegetable?

Found these plants in one of my pots and have no idea what they are! A couple of months ago, I threw in a handful of seeds, and have thrown away the empty packet, now I could not recall the seeds of which veggie that I sowed. Or maybe those seeds did not germinate and these are weeds instead?  They do look like weeds to me.

If you are familiar with this plant, could you please enlightened me? The closest that I've found out when I googled for more info is this one plant, called Plaintain Weed, from here. Could this be one of the species of Plaintain Weed?  If it is then I have a treasure in my pot, as this weed, Plaintain Weed has remedial properties. Until I know what these plants are, they will remain as they are in the pot for the time being.   If anyone should know or recognize this plant, would appreciate if you could share! Thank you!

Happy Gardening!

  4. I agree with you. It looks like the Plantain Weed aka Plantago major in your link above. In rural areas, it grows like a weed. We can find the whole plant for sale at wet markets - the seller asked me to boil the whole plant, roots and all to make soup, said it is good for kidneys and urinary system.

  7. Looks like some medicinal herbs that my mum used to plant. Now she's has stopped planting ythem as they always get some whitish fungal growth on the leaf surfaces. Yours are so healthy and lush.

  8. It's definitely broad-leaf plantain (Plantago Major). It's considered a weed here in the US, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's an edible weed and like you've mentioned, it has medicinal qualities. I haven't tried it yet so I can't comment on its edibility, but I will definitely try it if I can find it in my backyard. It's supposed to be highly nutritional.

  12. It is a plantain plant... I have a lot of them in my potager... my mum used to sun-dry the whole plant (minus the soil), and then boil them for use as tea... it does make very nice tea, with or without sugar... and yes, it does have medicinal value... go for it!

  15. Broadleaf Plantain (Plantago Major). An edible weed packed with a plethora of health benefits...ingested or made into salves and compresses :) Enjoy it. I plant it in containers on purpose!

  16. Plus, I used to place the leaves in boiling water to release the oils, then place them on my children's poison ivy or any contact itchy thing as a poultice to neutraluze the effects of such. Broadleaf plantain can almost always be found everywhere weeds seem to spring up, but is a truly useful plant.
