Some harvest!

Weather has been extremely hot this past week. Other than frequent watering of the plants, did not do much gardening lately. Some of my harvest the past week :


Kangkung. The last batch. I'm using the containers for carrots, radish and sweet peas. Due to lack of space, I need to rotate my plants. Hopefully the new plants will grow well, as I do not have much luck with carrots at all! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Belimbing, the first fruits after I pruned the tree about 8 months ago.


These belimbing goes into my sambal tumis ikan bilis with hard-boiled eggs.

  1. so nice to see all that bunches of greens!! my kangkungs are starting to sprout and tmrw i will plant my malabar spinach ;). my tiny capsicum has fallen off the stalk. stupid ants ate my capsicum!! got holes!!!

  3. Air liur meleleh looking at your belimbing buloh. Your harvest look so green and healthy. We still have to wait for a few weeks before we can start sow kangkung seeds.

  4. I have been harvesting and cooking kangkung lately. How are your carrots doing? I've not have one grown before. Same with potatoes.

  5. Nothing much is growing here. The star fruits are attacked by insects. Only a few tomatoes to harvest.Let me try some kangkong as you have done!

  6. I have Kangkung too! That's belimbing buloh? Do you have any idea how to differenciate between belimbing buloh and besi?

    To what I know, belimbing buloh is the one that I'm growing, pictured above. And belimbing besi is actually starfruits. I hope I'm right! :)

  9. Hi Malar,
    Oops, I did not plant the malabar spinach from seeds. I buy the veggie from the market, or you can get it from Tesco, Giant, etc.. Just pick the leaves for your cooking, and plant the stems in the soil. Really easy, you can harvest the leaves within 3 to 4 weeks! When the stems gets too long, I would cut it back and replant that stem, it would grow and give out more leaves. Enjoy!

  10. I'm in awe of your lovely garden. I too grow lots of plants in pots and although they need extra TLC, I don't mind the extra care.

    I never had much luck with carrots either until I discovered a trick using old worn out tires. I'd be glad to share, just let me know. Works GREAT for potatoes too!

  11. Wow! your sweet basil looks so green and healthy....and the belimbing!!! i want some please to cook sambal belimbing prawns...miss that dish very much! My sawtooth coriander and mulberry are growing very nicely.....Mmmmm....

  13. Oh, just realized that you have this lovely garden with full of spices and veggie, wish i can stay nearby you, so i can have some free sample from you ^^ recently i also started to plant sweet basil and rosemary, hopefully it will continue grow healthyly.

  14. Hi there, looking for some advice here, how do you prevent bugs eating the sweet basil leaves ? I keep getting holes on the leaves. And kaffir lime leaves too.. any enzymes or natural remedies to keep the bugs away ?

  15. Hi Swee San,
    So far, there's no bugs eating my basil leaves. And if I find any bugs on my kaffir lime leaves, I would usually remove them since I use the leaves for my cooking, I don't spray them. I did try using homemade organic spray but I find they are not effective.
