Happy New Year everyone! Hope you had a great gardening year in 2014. May this year be an even better year for everyone. Cheers!
My first harvest in 2015 from my potted garden, are these fresh crispy delightful lettuce salad leaves. I harvested them on 3rd January to serve with some roasted duck which my sister brought over for a family get-together.

I bought the packet of seeds which says "Lettuce (Salad)" on the pack, and did not indicate the actual variety of these lettuce. What attract me to this pack is that, it states that, these lettuce leaves grows rapidly under hot and humid condition, well, I'm sold! Haha!
These are some of the seedlings which I transferred to this container. There's another container of seedlings.
See how the way they grew! The leaves are spread out in all directions! I did not expect this, I thought that they would grow all nice and proper as an individual plant each. Notice the four sticks sticking out from the four corners of the container? Well, there's a reason for that. Due to our recent rainy season, the growing leaves are "plastered" to the soil after a rain! So I have therefore, tent the container with the container cover, resting on the four sticks (I've used disposable chopsticks, very handy!) each time it rained! And I would leave the cover on throughout the night, as it usually rains in the late afternoon to late at night. I would remove the cover in the morning so that the lettuce gets to benefit from the full morning sun.
From sowing date to harvest : about 65 days.
Fresh from the garden to the dining table. You can't get any fresher than that!
There are a few more lettuce plants which I've grown in individual pots, these would be great for my future sandwich! I have recently sowed more seeds. Maybe I should place the seedlings much closer together when I transferred them to a container, so that the leaves will have some sort of support when they are close together. I'll "experiment" on that and see how they fare. Looking forward to another harvest in a few months time!
Happy Gardening !
