Old Ye Faithful!

My faithful old belimbing tree, has never fails me! I cut off the top of the tree as it was getting too big and less than two months later, lush branches has grown. And that is not all, it has continue to flower, and I thought that it will only flower perhaps six to eight months later!

Such a pretty sigh! So happy to see the lush green leaves!

Flowers growing at the top of the stump!

Flowers growing at the bottom, close to the ground, and some fruits too!  That's not all, there are more flowers all over! Amazing, isn't it! Looks like since it has less branches and leaves to nurture, all the nutrients goes into growing more flowers, which is great!

My chives! Finally look more like chives instead of weeds of grass! These are extremely, extremely slow! Guess how old are these? They are seven months old! I'm gonna harvest them soon and use the pot for something else, as I think that these are a waste of space and time. Look at the 'bountiful' yield! Just enough for my omelette! The next time I'll look for clumps of established chives to plant instead of from seeds, which seems to take forever.

Yam! This is only about 2 months old. They will be ready to be harvested at around 10 months, it will be a long wait! Hope that it will continue to grow healthily!

Happy Gardening !

  4. Your belimbing buloh grow very fast from that hard pruning. You don't have to dedicate chives to only one pot, the one that I have grown from seeds is sharing space with kangkung like the company.Just mix and match so you can have more space to grow. I am very kedekut when it comes to space;-).Photo where I have the chives with kangkung.

  9. I thought it was curry leaves too on your belimbing trunk! I think your belimbing is very strong and has bounced back from botak after a trip to the 'hairdresser'. I like chives omellete too. Chives will be great for Char Koay Teow and also Ipoh hor fun with prawn wan tan.

  10. Hi ODD, the belimbing tree is getting too high, almost touching the telephone cable lines at the top, and also touching my neighbour's roof. I have not tried yam in asam pedas before! Curious to try now.

Hi Malar, You have a belimbing tree? That's nice. Lots of delicious dishes awaits you!

Hi Rani, I'm waiting for the yam to mature. Very impatiently in fact!

Hi Diana, I've decided to cluster the chives together and replant them. I was hoping that they would spread faster this way! It is difficult to mix veggies in a round pot. Will try in my newly acquired polyfoam rectangular containers, which are much bigger, courtesy from the morning market! :)

Hi Bangchik, wow! you have 20 keladi plants! How wonderful. I really like to eat keladi!

Hi Catherine, it's lovely to see you here, and thank you for following too!

Hi milka, Yes, I can understand how you feel about the chives! I did not harvest them, decided instead to cluster them together in two clumps and plant again, hoping that they will spread faster this way. Will let you know how it turns out!

Hi Stephanie, It certainly is good to see new healthy leaves growing, and the flowers too! Thank you.

Hi Autumn Belle, Chives are really fragrant and you are right, they are very good in Ipoh hor fun with prawn wan tan! Love them in fried kueh teow too, yummy!

  11. I was really concern when I was looking at your komatsuna seedlings because it does not look like komatsuna. I think I must have done some mix up when I was collecting the seeds. Honestly, I never saw this shape of seedlings before. I am not sure whether accidentally make a hybrid? Or weed? But I have not seen weed like this in our veggie patch. So I am a bit puzzled. However, please let me make it up with you from the trouble that I cause by sending you another komatsuna which is really komatsuna this time around. I am really sorry.

  13. Your belembing tree is so beautiful! I have never tried growing chives from seed only from the 2 inch starter plants, thank you for the advice because I was thinking about doing seed this year. I probably do not have the patience :)

  15. Thats why I am a bit confius because it does look like komatsuna seeds and I remember the flower that I saw before it become seed pods were also a replica of komatsuna flower. So I am not really sure why the seedlings look so different. So sorry that the cats was making itself as a pest again.
