Long Beans

My harvest of long beans, from two plants, which are not producing anymore, so I have pulled them out, and replace with 8 new seedlings! Two plants are not enough, to get more harvest, grow more plants! 😉
I  am looking forward to the next harvest, hoping for more long beans!

Hello again!

It has been eight months since my last post! On most part, I have been lazy at updating my blog, since I sometimes post some photos over at my Little Potted Garden facebook page. Here are some photos of what I have been growing and harvesting for the past few months.

Brinjals

Kale, the last few leaves, plant died after many harvests!  I have no success in growing this wonderful veggie again, still trying though!

 More daikons...and leaves are excellent in soups, love it!

 My 15 plus year-old belimbing tree, fruiting heavily. Fruits are especially big during this rainy season.

So many fruits! These were given away to happy recipients! 😊

 My seedless guava. They were crisp, juicy and sweet! I managed to get about 8 fruits. Just noticed that the plant is flowering again. Yay!

Petola/Ridged Gourd...we love these. The plant has since died and it's place is taken over by long beans. Will update on the long beans plant soon.

Water Chestnuts!

These are water chestnuts! Yes, we can grow them in our home garden. I actually grew them last year but did not get around to post it up.  It took about 9 months to finally harvest them. It is a good experience, but one that I would not want to repeat again. Much easier to just buy them from the market. I grew them because I was really curious and wanted to see whether can they be grown in our home garden. Well, they can!  I'm so glad that I gave a go at growing them!

Fig In A Pot

Nothing much is growing in my potted garden for the past few months, "abandoned" due to some reasons. My pots are mostly thriving with weeds instead of veggies! Finally cleared some of the pots to rid of the weeds, but there are lots more to do, like getting rid of some unwanted containers and reorganize everything, it is pretty messy right now! The rainy season is not helping either! So, meanwhile, here's my fig tree grown in a pot. This little tree was gifted to me by my sisters more than two years ago. Right now there are more than 80 fruits, big smile! It has been fruiting all this while, but never as many fruits as this before. My one wish is that the fruits will ripen at the same time! I usually harvest only one or two fruits at a time, and wish that there were more. 😊

Fig plants was not easy to find a few years ago. Due to the popular demand for fig plants, they are now available at most nurseries. There are many different varieties, I was drooling over some of the varieties, but they will have to wait, as the plants are really very costly.

Ginger Harvest

Hi everyone, it has been quite awhile since I last post anything on my blog! There's nothing much going on in my garden at the moment, as the last few months, I have been slacking in my gardening due to various reasons. Hope to get back on track soon.

Here's my ginger harvest from my potted garden, which I harvested yesterday. Ginger is one of the easiest to grow in a pot. I did not really take care of it, except to water the plant so that the soil do not dry out...after about 8-9 months, when the leaves begin to turn yellow and wilt, it is time to harvest the whole lot. You can however cut what you need when the rhizomes have grown to a substantial size. I did cut a knob of the rhizomes, on two occasions at the earlier months, for my cooking. Just cut what you did from one end, cover the cut area with soil, water as usual.

 Yield : 1.2kg, not bad from only 1 pot!

Seedless Guava

I went to Sg. Buloh more than  month ago, and bought a Seedless Guava plant, which is suitable to grow in a container. It has grown so much since then. I did not expect it to grow so fast! According to the person I bought this from, this is a fast fruiting variety and should bear fruit in about a year. And happy to say that I have spotted more than a dozen flowers a few days ago. I wonder how many of the flowers will make it to fruit! Finger crossed!

Small and pretty Blue Daze. Bought this plant from the nursery months ago and has never stopped flowering since then.

Tecoma Stans; yellow, bell-like shape, very pretty flowers, blooms in clusters. These sunny yellow flowers will brighten up any garden!

Petola (Ridged Luffa Gourd)

Petola is one of our favourite in my house. It is sweet, and delicious in stir-fries, omelettes and soups.

I have grown these a few times. Since I have limited gardening space, and lots of other veggies on my list of "to-plant", petola will only make an appearance again after a rotation of a few other plants.

Total petola fruits harvested was 11 fruits, from one single plant. The plant has already done its part, and that space is now occupied by another variety of gourd. Will update on that in another post.

Hot Cherry Bomb Pepper

I started this pepper with some seeds which I bought from My Lestary Seeds. After 5 months from date of sowing the seeds, there's only three fruits on the plant. There are dozens of flowers, except for these three, the rest dropped off after blooming their pretty white petals. Perhaps because of the heat wave which we are experiencing the last few months. The high temperature stresses the plant and it quit fruiting!. Even though in general, peppers are warm weather loving plants, but overly high temperature is not good too. 

 Three peppers are better than none at all!

Even cuter when it has turned a ripe red! It does look like a ripe red cherry!
